Motorcycle Rider News Band Review

Swerve Live

By: Diana Rowe

Acme Tribute Band

The Denver-based band, Swerve, has performed on large and small stages, festivals, private events, classy lounges and dive bars. Yet whether a hot spot or an off-the-beaten-path place, Swerve’s band members get down to business and always give their all – and let me tell you this band works that stage.

I’d heard about Swerve from a handful of people – saying you gotta see this guys they rock the stage.  Yeah, yeah, blah, blah – heard that before!  However, when Jay first picked up the microphone and belted out a Guns and Roses tune (Sweet Child of Mine) in that rocker, crackly voice, followed immediately by a kick-ass country Toby Keith song…well, I have to tell you. I think I feel in love!

Swerve’s song list is like the best shuffle on an iPod.  A little bit of country, a little bit of Rock n Roll, and then some more of the same.  Thank you very much.  I’m talking blasts from my past: 38 Special, Led  Zeppelin, Motley Crue and Rick Springfield. Generously stir in Nickelback and the Beatles with Jason Alden, Trace Adkins, Zach Brown and Johnny Cash.

The minute the first note hits the audience, Swerve is a high-energy show that simply does not stop.  How does Jay do it?  Jay (Jason) Abbott is the lead vocalist and a front man with 20 years experience. Jay doesn’t just stand and sing his heart out; he brings his energy to the audience. He’s on top of the speakers, and the next minute, he’s out in the crowd putting the mic to good use with audience participation.

But it takes a village, and in this case a great band to tap into the energy. Chris Young on as guitar, backs vocal for Swerve, and at 6’4” Chris’ stage presence is as big as he’s tall. Lead Guitarist is Nate Bilo, coming from west coast and Midwest tours, as the youngest band member, but no less accomplished.  Drummer Tony Terranova recently moved back home to Colorado, and somehow his dynamic presence is felt in the audience – even from sitting behind the stage.

Swerve’s high energy show will bring everyone to their feet, worth every minute of your time.  Upcoming shows include Firehouse Tavern, Quaker Steak & Lube, Stardust Lounge, and In the Zone Sports Bar. Check out their online calendar at
